Montgermont Castle
Montgermont Castle is located in the town of Pringy in Seine-et-Marne.
The first castle of Montgermont was a fortified mansion composed of a main body and two wings, surrounded by ditches and flanked by seven towers, of which only two remain in 1670. In 1789 and 1790, Jean-Armand-Louis de Gontault-Biron entrusts the architect Soufflot Le Romain with the work intended to transform the castle and remove its feudal aspect. The right wing, as well as two towers, are demolished. The castle was also heavily remodeled in the 19th century, on the initiative of Aimé de Gontaut-Biron. The left wing is completely dismantled. A gallery and a horseshoe steps are built on the main facade. The farm stables are moved. At the end of the 19th century, two projecting wings and two corner towers were added, one round, the other hexagonal. The entire building is exemplary of the neo-Louis XIII style 1 .
The industrialist Louis-Martin Lebeuf acquired the castle in 1846, which enabled him to be ennobled 2 , 3 .
The painter Marcel Chassard set up his studio there in the 1950s.
After having belonged to the Dubonnet family , the castle was divided into several lots forming a joint ownership in 1955.
